A template is a special resource type that can be used to create a predefined structure for files, images, or other resource type. This allows you to preconfigure a set of metadata fields with optional default values into a template. You also can use a template to add annotations that are not strings.

Creating a new template

  1. Launch BisQue.
     How do I do it?

     Click Sign in at the top right of the window, click Sign in again, enter your CyVerse user name, and then click Login. If you haven't already done so, you will need to get access to BisQue. Learn more about logging in and out of BisQue at Logging In and Out of BisQue.

  2. Click Create at the top of the screen and then click Create a new template.
  3. In the Create template window, enter the template name and click OK.
    The new template name is displayed at the top right of the window and the template opens:
  4. Click Save.

Editing a template

Opening the template to edit

  1. Launch BisQue.
     How do I do it?

     Click Sign in at the top right of the window, click Sign in again, enter your CyVerse user name, and then click Login. If you haven't already done so, you will need to get access to BisQue. Learn more about logging in and out of BisQue at Logging In and Out of BisQue.

  2. Click Browse and click template.
  3. Click to open the template to edit.

You can add fields to a template and import fields from a different template; rename, change the type, edit properties, remove fields, and delete a template.

Adding individual fields to a template

  1. In the template window to edit, click the field under which you want to add the new field and then click Add.
  2. Double-click in the Field name field and enter the name. This becomes the Name column when viewing the metadata in the Properties panel.
  3. Double-click in the Type field and select the field type from the drop-down list, either string (text), number, Boolean, date, Combobox (drop-down list), Hyperlink, BisqueResource (image linking), or email.
  4. Click Update.
  5. Click Save.

Importing fields from an existing template

  1. In the template window to edit, click Import. The list of your other templates is displayed.
  2. Click the template whose fields you want to import to the new template. The fields are imported into the new template.
  3. Click Save.

Renaming a template

  1. In the template window to edit, click the template name at the top right of the screen.
  2. In the Rename window, enter the new name and click OK.
  3. Click Save.

Changing the type

  1. In the template window to edit, double-click in the Type column of the field to edit.
  2. Select a different type.
  3. Click Save.

Editing field properties

  1. In the Properties panel of the template to edit, click in the Value column for the property to edit in the Properties panel, and edit the value.
  2. Click Save.

Removing fields from a template

  1. In the Field name table of the template to edit, click the field to delete, and then click Delete.
  2. Click Save.

Deleting a template

  1. In the template list, do either:
    • To delete in View mode , click to open the element to delete and then click Delete.
    • To delete in Edit mode :
  2. Hover over the file, image, mex file, store, template, or user until the edit menu is displayed:
  3. Click .
  4. Click Save.

  1. Launch BisQue.
     How do I do it?

     Click Sign in at the top right of the window, click Sign in again, enter your CyVerse user name, and then click Login. If you haven't already done so, you will need to get access to BisQue. Learn more about logging in and out of BisQue at Logging In and Out of BisQue.

  2. In the template window to download, click Download next to the Save button.
  3. Select either Original, As TARball, as GZip archive, as BZip2 archive, or as (PK)Zip archive).
  4. Click Save, click OK, specify the save as location, and then click Save.

Downloading from the Download window

  1. Click Download at the top of the window.
  2. From the Download window, click next to Add Images.
  3. Click either file, mex, or template.
  4. Click Grid layout at the top:
  5. Select the files or templates to download and then click Select.
  6. Select another resource type or perform the download.

Sharing a template

  1. Launch BisQue.
     How do I do it?

     Click Sign in at the top right of the window, click Sign in again, enter your CyVerse user name, and then click Login. If you haven't already done so, you will need to get access to BisQue. Learn more about logging in and out of BisQue at Logging In and Out of BisQue.

  2. Click Browse and then click template.
  3. Click to open the template to share.
  4. Click Share.
  5. Enter the user name or email of the person with whom you want to share the template and click Add share.
  6. Click Done.

Applying a metadata template to a resource

You can apply a metadata template to resources (datasets, images, etc.). Only one template can be applied to a resource.

Applying a template to a dataset affects only the dataset, not the images or other resources in the dataset.

  1. Launch BisQue.
     How do I do it?

     Click Sign in at the top right of the window, click Sign in again, enter your CyVerse user name, and then click Login. If you haven't already done so, you will need to get access to BisQue. Learn more about logging in and out of BisQue at Logging In and Out of BisQue.

  2. Click Browse and then click the resource type.
  3. Click to open the resource.
  4. Click Import on the Annotations tab on the right.
  5. Click from template.

  6. Click the template to use and then click Select.  If the resource is already templated, click Yes to change the template.
    The template name is added to the Name column in the Annotations table (you may need to refresh to see it in the list).

Removing a metadata template from a resource

  1. Click Browse and then click the resource type with the template to remove.
  2. Click to open the resource.
  3. Click the template name in the Annotations table on the right, and then click Delete.
