TV_10AUG2010

Agenda

  1. Updates from Kris, Adam
  2. Discussion about 1.0 release:
    1. What should be included?
      1. performance requirements
      2. layout
      3. user interface
      4. metadata capabilities
  3. Hoped release date

Notes

There was General agreement about trying for a 1.0 release in September. Some things that need to be incorporated:

  • We need to address performance issues. Two possible solutions:
    • Move more of the calculation to the server (positions of nodes, edges) and then draw in the browser. Will probably result in more cross-browser effects.
    • Do all calculations, rendering on server and transmit images to client (the 'Google maps' solution)
  • Metadata: need to have basic mechanism for importing metadata and displaying it on a tree
  • Interface: needs polish, including file import, basic documentation, search, mouse overs, etc.
  • Tree reconciliation: some TR needs for this release, but can be accomplished using mouse overs and image maps

Sheldon suggests that Bernice or Adam start attending the Tree Reconciliation meetings on Wednesdays at 11:30 (AZ time).

Plan for small hackathon in Tucson sometime in the next few months, including members from TreeViz, Tree Reconciliation and Core Software.

Action items

  1. Adam is going to spend the next week looking into solution #2 and report back
  2. Michael G. will start a document with the list of required features & bug fixes (to be later imported into jira)
  3. Sheldon / Bernice (question) to collect specific requirements from Tree Reconciliation
