Understanding the /scratch directory

In addition to the storage selected during launch for the root disk, Atmosphere provides auxiliary storage under /scratch. This storage is unique in that it is slightly less persistent than the regular disk storage. Due to its nature, this storage will be erased if the instance is shelved. While a stopped or suspended instance will preserve the contents, instances in these states ultimately may be shelved if the instance is inactive for too long. If a higher durability guarantee is required (or desired) within the instance, then store data in a volume. You can also backup and restore your data to the CyVerse Data Store.
